Its minimalist concept unites lightweight construction with a super-stable, low profile design, an anatomical insole with memory foam, and shock-absorbing features. July 2018, I purchased a pair of the Alpine Pro GTX's a trip to the Alps that summer. I wore the Alpine Pro GTX's for 22 days in the Alps this past summer. I had very little time to break in this boots. Before leaving for Europe, I took a short three mile hike in . I climbing the following routes in these boots: - Northwest Ridge Interlaken Route on the Petite Aiguille Verde - Arête d’ Cosmiques on the Aiguille d' Midi on the Mont Blanc Massif - Aiguille d'Entrèves - Dente del Gigante (or in English - the Giants Tooth) - Hörnli Ridge on the Matterhorn The rubber used on the Alpine Pro GTX's performed surprising well on the rock but in some places on the boots, the abrasive alpine rock gouged chucks of rubber from the rubber rand around the front side of the boot. I had them resoled after the trip to preserve the boot. The Alpine Pro GTX's were stiff enough to were with a 12 point flexible crampon. My feet did get wet from the wet slushy glacier snow crossing the Valley Blanche, but so did a lot of folks feet get wet that day too. I have been a loyal Lowa brand customer for a long time (30 years). About seven years ago, I had experimented with two other boot manufactures. After having a bad experiences with a poor fit, questionable quality, and lack luster customer service, I returned to the Lowa brand once again and was not disappointed. I'll give these boots a five star rating for fit and performance, and a three star rating for durability and water proofness. Barry Rusnock Riverview Outdoor Adventure Climbing School LLC
