Extreme Birding, for an Extremely Good Cause
LOWA Boots is committed to environmental stewardship and the enrichment of the outdoor experience. In partnership with the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, LOWA Boots is supporting bird conservation and outdoor education. Not only are birds vital indicators of environmental health, they also have the power to connect people across all continents to the wonder of nature.
GLOBAL BIG DAY
How many bird species can be seen in one day? That’s the question that drives a ‘big day,’ a fond tradition among birders. But what if birders around the world joined together for a single GLOBAL Big Day? In May 2018, birders from around the globe recorded nearly 70% of the world’s bird species in one day. More than 1.6-million bird sightings were recorded from over 170 countries! Can this record be topped in 2019?
SUPPORTING BIRD CONSERVATION
All the data collected on Global Big Day helps Cornell Lab scientists monitor bird populations, which guides conservation efforts. The event also raised more than $500,000 for Cornell Lab programs.
