We believe as an outdoor footwear company, it’s critical for us to support organizations that contribute to the conservation and enjoyment of our natural world, which is why LOWA is a proud sponsor of Leave No Trace (LNT). Using the power of science, education and stewardship, Leave No Trace is on a mission to ensure a sustainable future for the outdoors and the planet.

As part of our year-long Giveback Program to celebrate LOWA’s centenary, from September 18 – September 24, 5% of net sales on all purchases on www.lowaboots.com will go to LNT to help promote environmental stewardship.

The 7 Principles of Leave No Trace are an easy-to-understand framework for minimum-impact visits to the outdoors. Follow these tips and tricks the next time you are in the backcountry, your neighborhood park, or anything in between!

1. Plan Ahead & Prepare

Be prepared and remember the 10 essentials! No matter the activity, make sure to pack food, water, and clothes to protect you from cold, heat, and rain.

2. Travel & Camp on Durable Surfaces

Walk and ride on designated trails to prevent erosion and protect trailside plants. Camp only on existing or designated campsites to avoid damaging vegetation.

3. Dispose of Waste Properly

Pack It In, Pack It Out, including all food scraps. If available, use the bathroom in provided facilities. Pack out poop or use a cathole 6”-8” deep and 70 big steps from water sources, trails, and camp if a bathroom or latrine is unavailable.

4. Leave What You Find

Allow others a sense of discovery by leaving rocks, plants, archaeological artifacts, and other objects of interest as you find them.

5. Minimize Campfire Impacts

Check local fire restrictions. If campfires are allowed, contain them to existing fire rings, keep fires small, and ALWAYS dowse them with water until they are cool to the touch before leaving.

6. Respect Wildlife

Never feed wildlife! Human food is unhealthy for all wildlife, and feeding them starts bad habits. Protect wildlife and your food by securely storing your meals and trash.

7. Be Considerate of Other Visitors

Be considerate when passing others on the trail. Always yield to those traveling uphill and those using a wheelchair or on horseback.
