Beth Whitman

Occupation: Traveler, trekker, author, speaker
Hometown: Seattle

I’m a traveler at heart and was bitten by the bug early on when I set out on my first adventure at age 20--road-tripping around the U.S. for three months. It wasn't until my mid-40's that I discovered outdoor adventure and trekking as a way to travel AND stay fit.

I now lead tours to destinations around the world with the message that getting out and moving--specifically trekking and running--is not only a way to enjoy local cultures and their environment but to feel great in the process. It doesn't matter at what age you start, you just need to begin with that first step.

Travel Highlights:

In addition to leading groups up Mt. Kilimanjaro and Machu Picchu, I’ve led groups on the Snowman Trek in Bhutan. At 220 miles over 25 days and the highest pass over 18,000 feet, the Snowman Trek is considered the most difficult trek in the world--which is why it has just a 50% success rate.

I live in Seattle where I get to enjoy training hikes in the Cascades and around Mt. Rainier with my husband and, of course, my LOWA boots. And as much as I love the views of the mountains from my home, there's usually a guidebook within reach as I research new destinations and adventures.

What's Next/Looking Forward To:

Hiking Machu Picchu, running the Epic5 Hawaii (five ultras, five days, five Hawaii islands), and running the 4 Desert Races in 2020 (150 miles over six days across the Gobi in China, the Atacama in Chile, the Namib in Namibia, and Antartica).

Fun Fact:

I easily cry at what I call “perfect moments.” It might be watching the snow fall, listening to a song that brings me back to my childhood, or watching a hummingbird out my office window.

My favorite LOWAs:

My Renegade GTX Mids have traveled with me around the world across 220 miles in Bhutan on the Snowman Trek, up Kilimanjaro and to Machu Picchu. I love that they’re so lightweight AND they come in 9 different colors for women!
